Development of neurosurgery in Russia

Neurosurgery continues to play the major role in the complex treatment of patients with brain tumors. Establishment of neurosurgical service in the USSR is linked with creation of the specialized research institutes in Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev. They became the basis for the joint Soviet neurosurgical school which made the great contribution to the theory and practice of neurosurgery. The specialized network of neurosurgical establishments in Russia and other former republics of the USSR has considerably improved the results of treatment of brain tumors.
