The low level of formation of students’ cognitive independence poses the problem of finding the most effective methods and technologies for organizing the educational process, which contribute to the activation of students’ activities, the development of positive motivation in them and ensure the formation and development of their cognitive independence in the study of pedagogy. The goal is to identify and substantiate pedagogically appropriate methods, forms and technologies of teaching, the use of which would ensure the formation and development of students’ cognitive independence in the process of studying the discipline “Pedagogy”. The methodological basis for the study of the problem considered in the article is the concept of the development of cognitive independence and activity, the activity theory of personality. Experience in the university has shown that effective technologies for organizing the educational process in the study of pedagogy are the method of problem-based learning, interactive and project-based learning technologies that have great potential for the formation of active, independent and creatively thinking specialists.
