All sectors of the global economy have experienced the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The real sector was also affected due to a decrease in demand for products and disruption of processor chains. In Russia, the decline in industrial production has reached 2.1%, but in many regions, due to the features of the economic structure, there was a significant reduction in the volume of shipments of industrial products. In the Vologda Oblast, on average, industrial production only slowed down the growth rate due to an increase in world prices for the main export goods: rolled metal and mineral fertilizers. To determine the problems existing in the region's real sector, Vologda Research Center of RAS has been conducting monitoring since 1993, which includes a survey of heads of industrial enterprises. Since the pandemic has made adjustments to the functioning of enterprises, the questionnaire has been supplemented with a number of questions to assess the activities, implemented during this period and the effect of government support measures. The purpose of the study is to analyze the state of the regional industry (based on the case study of the Vologda Oblast), identify key trends, features and problems of its development in the pandemic based on the survey of heads of organizations. The information basis of the work is the data of questionnaire surveys and the works of Russian scientists dealing with the problems of the real economic sector and issues of improving the efficiency of its activities. As a result of the study, we have revealed the negative consequences of the restrictions, imposed to prevent the pandemic spread, which have laid on the existing problems with a lack of funding. The paper considers the features of the attitude of heads of organizations to the actions of federal and regional authorities during non-working days; half of the respondents could not give a qualitative description of their economic policy. The work contributes to the identification of the issues of the region's industrial sector, helps to identify the main sharp corners in the interaction of enterprises and authorities in the new economic conditions. The conducted research helps to correlate official statistics data with the real situation of industrial enterprises, its results can be taken into account when making forecasts for the coming year.
