The article discusses the features of the use of the Association method in the work on the development of speech with younger students with mental retardation. The author reveals the methods of Association in the context of speech development, presented in a playful manner, which corresponds to the leading activity of the age of younger students with mental retardation. The stages of using the Association method in the work on the development of speech in younger students with mental retardation are analyzed. It is considered how the method of associations positively affects the speech, cognitive and motivational sphere of younger students with mental retardation.
