The higher education system in Eastern countries is undergoing quite similar changes. Despite different political and socio-economic conditions, these countries share common development vectors. This article examines directions in the development of higher education, such as internationalization and democratization, using examples from countries like China and Japan. This holds particular significance for the Russian education system, as Eastern regions of the country, such as the Republic of Buryatia, are seeing increased interaction with strategically important neighboring countries, especially China and Mongolia.
