Development of police officers' abilities for emotional-volitional self-regulation at the initial stage of professional training

Introduction. The police officers' abilities for emotional-volitional self-regulation make up a significant professional competence which provides effectiveness in professional performance. Therefore, development of these abilities is the primary task of psychological preparation at the initial stage of professional training. Materials and methods. The research employed the following methods: psychodiagnostics, experimental, quantitative and qualitative analysis, psychocorrection. A forming experiment was conducted for individuals with a high neuropsychic disadaptation of non-pathological character during their professional training in specialization “Police officer” according to the programme designed to develop abilities for emotional-volitional self-regulation. Results and Discussion. The forming experiment enabled the author to study the parameters of the neuropsychic adaptation of police officers to the conditions of the activity environment of the initial stage of professional training. The valuable results obtained prove the developed abilities in self-regulation sphere and dynamics of changing indicators in the learners' emotional sphere. It is proved that statistically important changes in the self-regulation style are manifested in the abilities for modelling, flexible behaviour, independence. A practically new style of self-regulation showing the officers' potential resources, dynamics of properties of emotional intelligence and qualitative changes of arbitrary activity was formed. Conclusions. The article provides the results of the police officers' developed abilities for emotional-volitional self-regulation at the initial stage of professional training which may be used for organization of psychological training of learners majoring in “Police officer” profession.
