The analysis on modern trends of international standardization of management systems is carried out. It is shown that the uncertainty of the expected result in unexpected serious consequences, including the economic crisis, leads to the bankruptcy of a number of companies and organizations, a major cause of which is insufficient readiness for crisis situations. Risk management as an economic category is a relatively new concept, and actively studied in the literature, and on the basis of international standards within the framework of the quality management system. However, their use in domestic practice is insufficiently effective because of the lack of a unified approach to this comprehensive issue. It is shown that one of the modern trends of international standardization is to develop risk management and management for sustainable business development on the basis of an approach based on risks. In the new version of ISO 9001:2015 “Quality Management Systems. Requirements” one of the main differences is a clear requirement for a risk-based thinking in order to maintain and improve the understanding and application of the process approach based on risks. A variant of identification and a risk level, ways of dealing with risks are considered. It is shown that a critical look at existing business, which adjusts the requirements for confidentiality, including the results of audits of management systems, takes the center stage.
