The circular economy (closed-loop economy) has appeared in scientific discourse recently, in development of the provisions and goals in the field of sustainable development of the United Nations. The purpose of the article is the prospects for the development of tourism and the hospitality industry in a closed-loop economy. The work uses data from analytical reports of the United Nations, the World Tourism Organization, scientific papers on circular economy, sustainable tourism and sustainable hospitality, as well as business practices of industry companies. The authors noted that tourism is a resource-intensive activity, negatively affecting the climate, depletion of natural recreational resources, including non-renewable ones, and, polluting the environment, generates a lot of food, household and non-recyclable waste. Sustainable hospitality is developing in the hospitality industry within the framework of the concept of a circular (cyclical) economy; the paper presents its successful examples from Russian and foreign practice. To achieve the global goal of living in a healthy, green and clean world, the authors propose measures to implement the principles of circular economy (closed-loop economy) in tourism and the hospitality industry.
