The relevance of the development of the educational autonomy of students of non-linguistic fi elds of study in modern conditions is substantiated. The concept of “educational autonomy” and the theoretical foundations of the development of autonomy in the context of learning English for professional purposes are considered. The analysis of the work program of the discipline “Foreign language” is carried out, aimed at identifying its potential for the development of students’ learning autonomy. The results of an empirical study aimed at identifying diffi culties in learning English for professional purposes, students’ attitudes towards learning autonomy and digital learning formats are presented. The conclusion is made about the need for a systematic integration of work on the development of educational autonomy into the process of teaching English for professional purposes, teaching strategies of self-organization, the use of digital technologies and the development of refl ection.
