The article deals with the concept of speech conflict in a little-studied area - dramaturgical discourse. The material of the research is the conflict speech acts in A.V. Vampilov's play ‘The Eldest Son’. When analyzing these examples, special attention is paid to determining the communicants’ goal-setting, linguistic means, strategies and tactics used in the conflict, consequences for the plot and the development of characters’ images. The authors conclude that the conflict speech act not only reveals the essence of dramatic conflict, but also gives the author the opportunity to create a multifaceted image that is as close to reality as possible. The analysis of such literary examples in the perspective gives an opportunity to study typological linguistic conflict situations, which in the real linguistic environment do not lend themselves to verbatim description. That is why the study of conflicts fixed exactly in dramaturgical discourse has a great potential for the development of pragmalinguistics.
