A rare observation of a solitary colon cancer metastasis to the scalp

The features of the progression of malignant neoplasms of various organs and the choice of tactics for their treatment remain not fully understood. Most tumors are characterized by certain ways of predominant hematogenous metastasis to various organs and tissues. Thus, in cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, distant metastases are most often detected in the liver and lungs, with lung cancer - in liver, brain, adrenal glands, bones, in breast cancer - in bones, liver, lungs, etc. Metastatic skin lesions in malignant diseases are registered in 0.7-10.4% and considered a poor prognostic factor. The literature describes cases of metastatic skin lesions as the first manifestation of malignant disease of internal organs. When a resectable malignant neoplasm of an organ is combined with a single metastasis to the patient's skin, most often a decision is made in favor of surgical removal of the main tumor and its single metastasis. When the possibility of radical removal of the main tumor is doubtful or impossible, the expediency of surgical treatment of a single skin metastasis in such a patient is questionable. We present an observation of a patient, which had a single metastasis to the skin of the occipital region two years after combined treatment and ongoing chemotherapy for sigmoid colon cancer in stage IV, T3N1cM1 with liver and lung metastases. The purpose of this presentation is to show the validity of surgical removal of a single metastasis of sigmoid colon cancer into the skin at an early stage of its detection or with the development of necrosis and ulceration of the tumor.
