The article is devoted to the analysis of the problems of the development of independent tourism. The relevance of the research of this topic is connected with the independent tourism development and its popularity among the younger generation. Currently, the number of people wishing to go on an independent tour is growing rapidly, which makes it necessary to study the consumers of this service, develop recommendations for the development of this direction. The article presents the author's definition of independent tourism, which has become a mass phenomenon in the context of the development of information technologies. The analysis of synonyms of concepts denoting this type of services, often used in domestic and foreign scientific sources, is given. The object of research is independent tourism, as one of the directions of the tourism industry and the current trend in demand. The work is focused the problems of functioning of this type of services in modern economic realities. The purpose of the work is to analyze the factors and conditions for the development of demand for independent travel. The popularity of the term of independent tourism in search engines is investigated. The author considers theoretical aspects of independent tourism, discloses the concept, types and features of this tourist destination, characterizes digital resources that help an independent traveler, and reveals the economic benefits of forming an individual tour. The article identifies the problems and limitations faced by independent travelers and proposes the ways to solve them.
