Бесплатный доступ

The role of imperative utterances in language as the means of communication between people is extremely high. This article is devoted to the specific features of imperative utterances usage in the unofficial communication register. This register includes the instances of communication between family members and friends. The work points out that unofficial register situations are characterized by a large variety of the meanings of imperativity. Here, the speaker is free in the choice of linguistic means of expressing this or that meaning. This register is also characterized by the usage of direct speech acts of order and prohibition, imperative speech acts with negative pragmatic shades (insult, dissatisfaction, complaint), imperative utterances with the pragmatic shade of consolation, etc. The study notes that in spite of the freedom of choice of these meanings English comminicants often try to address their partners with respect and choose polite forms in conversation.
