The features of the legal regulation of two types of criminal punishment (imprisonment and exile) in the second half of the XVII century, that is, after the Council Code of 1649, are revealed. The author analyzes the decrees that determined both the content of these repressive measures and the issues of their execution, where the emphasis was on financing and logistical support of penal institutions. It is noted that during this period the state began to use criminals more actively to develop new territories.
