Recurrent selection in plant breeding

Бесплатный доступ

Four types of recurrent selection are described: phenotype selection, selection for general combining ability (GCA), selection for specific ability (SA) and reciprocal periodic selection. The original method of simple recurrent selection for sunflower breeding was developed and put into practice by V.S. Pustovoit. Taking into account the misleading influence of modifying factors of environment, it is difficult to reveal a successful genotype by means of direct trial. The most promising approach to solving the problem of identification of valuable genotypes is the theory of ecogenetical background. Along with the efficiency of simple recurrent selection the positive results of selection for GCA, SA and reciprocal recurrent selection of plants of corn, sunflower, sugar beet and other cultures are shown.
