Youth religiosity in the transforming Kyrgyz society

The study analyzes the problems of youth religiosity which are relevant to modern Kyrgyzstan. The research focuses on the causes and aspects of youth religiosity in Kyrgyzstan being under sovereignization. The purpose of the study is to reveal the factors in growing religiosity among today’s youth. The author identifies the terms and causes of religious revival in Kyrgyzstan after the collapse of the USSR, presents the religious peculiarities of its youth in the context of the multi-religious society (low competence in religious matters, spontaneous attachment to religious traditions). Based on a sociological survey of students in Bishkek, the involvement of young people in the Kyrgyz Republic in religiosity, in particular Islam, is demonstrated in quantitative and qualitative aspects. The growing trends towards the politicization and radicalization of Islam in Kyrgyzstan are revealed. The study notes the mechanisms to prevent or control the proliferation of radical Islam in the Kyrgyz Republic.
