The effectiveness of research work of engineering university students: to the problem of assessment

A modern specialist must master the technologies and algorithms for creatively solving practical problems, in addition to the formed competencies expressed in the system of fundamental and specialized knowledge and skills. The paradigm of “lifelong learning”, enshrined in the national projects of the Russian Federation, should be implemented in each specialist through the desire to constantly improve their qualifications, to meet changing conditions. The need for research into the surrounding reality, creative search is formed by the education system, starting with preschool education, but is most developed in higher education through the active participation of students in research work. The involvement of students in research activities is enshrined in federal state educational standards, so each university strives to do this work systematically and efficiently. The state requirement, reflected in the documents of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the Russian Federation, is the cultivation of creative activity and the implementation of student research work (SRW) in all courses of any university. In the presence of fundamental studies of students’ research work (dissertations, monographs, textbooks), which have been conducted since the 1980s, various aspects of the problem have been worked out unevenly. We have found that scientific publications (starting from 2010) most often choose general issues as the subject of research in this problem: goals, objectives, functions of students’ research work, and also analyze specific experience in organizing and implementing scientific work in the framework of training specialists in a specific specialty or at a specific department. The least fully disclosed issues are related to assessing the effectiveness of research work. We chose this subject of research due to the need for a practical solution to this problem in a specific professional educational institution. The need for practical implementation of any problem creates certain limitations for researchers related to the fact that in addition to the coherence, technological effectiveness and validity of its solution, it is necessary to focus on the level of technical performers who will have to perform this work in the institution. We believe that we have found a solution that meets all the criteria mentioned above.
