Results and pro-spects of oil crops breeding in Rostov region

The analysis of weather conditions in Rostov region during the last 5 years is made in this article. The re-sults of breeding and production of oil crops – sunflower, mustard, oil flax – are indicated. Theoretical achievements and ecologically sound breeding material, accumulated at the experimental station, provide the development of high productive adaptive varieties and hybrids, which makes possible the receipt of high yield of oil crops in conditions of insufficient moisture in the south of Russia. The prospects of development of sunflower varieties, resistant to drought, broomrape and diseases, are de-fined. Practical recommendations for the selection of varieties and hybrids of different maturity groups are given, which help the producers to get a high yield of oil crops annually, even in drought conditions, and to provide eco-nomic stability for their production.
