Research results of breeding, seed growing and production of rapeseed in Russian Federation

Theoretical and applied aspects of rapeseed breeding, seed growing and production in Russian Federation have been stated. In 2001 All-Russia Research and Design-Technological Institute of Rapeseed (VNIPTI) worked out scientifically based conception of rapeseed and turnip rape regionizing in Russia, according to which there is possibility to expand their cultivated area up to 2.5 mln. ha. But for complete providing of livestock with vegetable protein, cultivated area of rapeseed in our country in perspective has to be expanded to 5.5 mln. ha. Quick production growth of this crop, expansion of cultivated area, transition to "00" varieties cultivation require efficient seed growing organization. All-Russia Research and Design-Technological Institute of Rapeseed (VNIPTI) has worked out scientifically based seed growing system, which consists of 3 stages: I - foundation seeds production of released varieties is carried out by All-Russia Research and Design-Technological Institute of Rapeseed (VNIPTI) and other research institutes: 2 - elite seeds production is carried out in experimental-production fanning of research institutes: 3 - production of certified seeds is carried out in special seed production farming for commercial sale to ordinary farming. It has been noted, that in the process of research work All-Russia Research and Design-Technological Institute of Rapeseed (VNIPTI), All-Russia Research Institute of Fodder Crops (VTK). All-Russia Research Institute of Oil Crops (VNIIMK) and other institutions worked out spring rapeseed cultivation technologies for major rapeseed growing Russian regions, which provide production of high quality oilseed from 15 to 2.5 t/ha and 2.7-3.0 t/ha in the best farming of Central Chernozem Zone (CCZ).
