Additive connectors in German: corpus study

The article presents the results of corpus studies of the additive functions of the German adverbs ferner, weiterhin, zudem, inzwischen and mittlerweile, which are compared with the meanings found in the most authoritative dictionary of the German language Duden. Dictionary definitions in the dictionary interpret these linguistic units as a means of temporal organization of the text. With their help, two actions performed at different times are associated. An analysis of examples of the DWDS text corpus indicates that the adverbs under consideration can act as additive connectors in the text in order to add new information to the existing one.
