The role of A.S. Emelyanov in agricultural science

Alexei S. Emelyanov was one of the leading specialists in the field of agriculture. He devoted 45 years of labor activity to scientific research and achieved high results, which were recognized with government awards. Alexei S. Emelyanov made a significant contribution to the improvement of dairy breeds of cattle, formation of the system of normalized feeding of animals and breeding of young stock. Under the guidance of A.S. Emelyanov and with his direct participation, surveys of Holmogorsk cattle were conducted. Based on the results of zootechnical evaluation of animals, measures to improve the productive and exterior features of cattle of the Holmogorsk breed have been developed. Alexei S. and the institute’s staff conducted experiments on milking first-calf cows, which resulted in unique results for the 1930s - 5,000-6,000 kg of milk per cow. For high performance of scientific experience A.S. Emelyanov was awarded the Order of Lenin in 1936 and 1966, as well as one gold and two silver medals of the All-Union Exhibition of National Economy. For his great contribution to agricultural science Alexei S. was awarded the title of Honored Zootechnician of the RSFSR and elected a corresponding member of the VASKHNIL (Lenin All-Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences). The scientific school of Alexei S. Emelyanov is relevant at the present time because in the context of international sanctions requires the solution of issues related to the sustainable development of domestic agricultural production, improving the quality and competitiveness of products. The main task of agricultural production on a scientific basis is to ensure food security of Russia.
