The role of digital literacy in developing students’ foreign-language communicative competence

The author explores the role of digital literacy in developing foreign-language communicative competence. Examining the influence of the level of individual's digital literacy on educational process contributes to appearing new relevant conceptual approaches to digitization of education and to working out new teaching methods. Digital literacy is a factor that upgrades the level of students' self-organization and many-sided reflexion, and that enhances the motivation for studying a foreign language. Mastering digital literacy opens up unique opportunities to develop all the competences which are integrated into foreign-language communicative competence. Such resources as electronic dictionaries, textbooks, educational applications contribute to developing language competence. The use of online news, films, audio- and video-podcasts, blogs have proved their efficacy in the process of developing discourse competence. Electronic educational resources and language social networks help to gain sociocultural competence.
