The Orthodox-Islamic dialogue in Russia is in fact a trialogue, in which the third party is always the state governing relations between major Russian religions in the legal and ideological aspects. The legal role of the state does not differ essentially from the one in democratic countries. In the ideological aspect, Russia has its own path determined by the unique historical experience of government patronage over relations between the dialogue participants having a number of philosophical and ideological differences. General guidelines of social development are set by the Russian state on the basis of the unity of the ideology that has deep religious principles, the supremacy of the state power, and the inviolability of confessional identity.
