Role and university's development prospects in modern digital society

The relevance of the study is due to the contradictory nature of the digital transformation of higher education: on the one hand, it provides the potential for training personnel for the actual development of the educational institution; on the other - is fraught with a number of difficulties and problems. The article undertakes a socio-philosophical analysis of university digitalization process in order to determine the role and prospects of its development in modern society. The author highlights the main directions of digital transformation of the university and digital technologies used in higher education; the potential of using digital technologies in the educational process of a modern university is determined; the problems arising in the course of the current transformation are identified and possible ways to solve them are indicated. It is concluded that the modern university is a dynamic entity with an innovative structure, acting as a flagship of socio-economic development of modern society. A prerequisite for maintaining the prestige of a higher education institution and preserving its “niche” in the knowledge society and the new educational paradigm is a qualitative digital transformation, covering the educational process, management and infrastructure of the university.
