This article examines the impact of information technology and socio-cultural factors on the development and popularization of dark tourism. The study analyzes the role of the Internet, cinema, social networks, mobile applications, and virtual reality in fostering the emergence and growth of new forms within this industry. Particular attention is given to the socio-cultural, historical, religious, and ethnic aspects that attract travelers to places with tragic histories. The research identifies key factors contributing to the popularization of “dark tourism” and explores their use for the further development of this sector. The article also addresses ethical and moral issues associated with visiting sites of past tragedies, emphasizing the need for respectful treatment of history and culture. It suggests that “dark tourism” can serve as a means of preserving historical memory.
