The role of artificial intelligence in teaching ophthalmology: current opportunities and prospects of medical education

Modern medical education faces the challenge of improving learning efficiency amid the rapid growth of scientific knowledge and clinical technologies. Ophthalmology, as a visually oriented and high-technology discipline, requires the implementation of innovative educational approaches. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have attracted increasing attention in the teaching of clinical disciplines. This review discusses the main applications of AI in ophthalmology education, including intelligent tutoring systems, medical image analysis, simulation-based learning, and virtual patients. The advantages, limitations, and future prospects of integrating AI into medical education are analyzed.
