Examples of ekphrasis in the V.A. Kaverin 's essayistic works are being an-alised in the given article. Two most typical cases of ekphrastic descriptions in the author's essays - ekphrasis as the reason for generalization having general theoretic character and ekphrasis as means of visualization making this or that generalization "come down to earth" - are the objects of the analysis. The role of ekphrastic descriptions in actualization of esthetic problems is being emphasized.
