The history of the education system in Brazil and some problems of teacher training are considered. The goal of the study is to identify the potential of cultural-historical theory as a scientific and theoretical basis for teacher training in Brazil. Ideas and concepts that should become vectors of change in the education system for future teachers are highlighted. A conclusion is drawn about the validity of the formulated hypothesis about the possibility of overcoming the dichotomy that separates the work and training of teachers in Brazil, based on the theoretical principles formulated by L.S. Vygotsky and his followers.
