The Role of Proprioceptive Exercises in Improving Joint Stability in Ankle Sprains in Track and Field Athletes

The importance of fi nding ways to help athletes with chronic instability of the ankle joint is substantiated, a set of medical, sports and psychological factors determining the relevance of the study is identifi ed. The purpose of the study is designated as substantiation of the eff ectiveness of the program of exercises on proprioception for restoring joint stability in sprains of the ankle joint in athletes. The results of the analysis of scientifi c literature are presented, which made it possible to identify the causes of chronic instability of the ankle joint and ways to restore its stability. The author's program for the development of proprioception, based on exercises to improve the range of motion of the joint, increase muscle strength and stability, is described. The results of testing the program with the participation of athletes of the Syrian national athletics team who suff ered a lateral sprain of the ankle ligaments are presented. A conclusion is made about the important rehabilitation role of proprioceptive exercises for restoring the functions of the ankle joint after sprains, the eff ectiveness of the author's exercise program.
