The role of psychological attitudes in teaching women firing service weapon

Introduction. An increasing number of women in police is a modern tendency. The period of professional training is an essential stage in police training especially for women and in teaching them firing service weapon. The aim of the research is to consider the role of psychological attitudes and establish their relation to physiological processes during women professional firearms’ training. Materials and Methods. The authors analyzed the most frequent feelings in preparing for work with the service weapon. To diagnose stress at a personal level E. Diener “Scale of Life Satisfaction” (Leontiev, Osin, 2003) was used. Results and Discussion. A female emotional sphere is more intensified, however, due to personal resource they try to balance the stressful situation developing when they fire service weapon. Personal resource helps to restrain the development of a situational stress reaction on a psycho-physiological level when firing a weapon. The main period of teaching women marksmanship lasts first three weeks (twenty-one days), it is then that psychological attitudes at learning and the processes of the body’s self-regulation are formed. Conclusions. When teaching marksmanship it is necessary to focus on the role of psychological attitudes for building professional knowledge in order to fix an unconscious state which means readiness to act according to the service situation. The main period of building professional knowledge when training new personnel is twenty-one days. This time is required for renewal not only of psychological but also physiological adaptation which facilitates effective person’s adaptation to the changing environment (the level of social adaptation) for maintaining his integrity and identity.
