Role of education competence resources of school-leavers in adaptation to university

Students' educational competence plays a significant role in education quality assurance. The resources of educational competence are defined as schoolchildren's accumulated experience of activities and relations. This experience is actaalized in students' educational competence that facilitates their adaptation to a university, ensures success in study, personal and professional development. The aim of the investigation is to study the relationship between the educational competence resources of school-leavers and their adaptation to university studies. The study applied the questionnaire on adaptation of students in high school (T.D. Dubovitskaya) and the author's questionnaire on educational competence resources. The results showed that resources accumulated in the process of schooling contribute to student's adaptation to university. These resources include the experience of cognitive motivation and initiative, the experience of positive relationships with parents, teachers and classmates, the experience of participation in competitions, contests, projects, the experience of interest in learning and values related to education, the experience independent decisions and action, as well as the experience in non-academic activities. The results enrich psychological and pedagogical sciences with knowledge about the internal factors of student's adaptation to university. The study revealed flexible resources, emerging in the process of school training. The results will be useful to scientists and practitioners to facilitate the students' adaptation to university studies.
