Based on the archival records introduced into scientific circulation for the first time (documents from the collections of the Russian academy of Education Scientific Archive) and published works by Vsevolod P. Kashchenko, his views on labor training and the role of productive labor in the upbringing, training and socialization of students with disabilities are considered. The influence of the Russian pedagogical tradition (Konstantin D. Ushinsky, etc.) on the formation of Kashchenko's views on the importance of labor in the pedagogical process, taking into account contemporary foreign experience in the organization, content and methods of teaching labor disciplines. The article shows Kashchenko's position on labor training when discussing the organization of educational institutions for defective children in 1908-1912, the practice of organizing labor education in a sanatorium school during school and vacation time. The article considers the evolution of views on this issue in connection with the political changes in Russia in 1917 and in the context of Kashchenko's general views on the process of education and training, reflected in unpublished works of the 20s of the XX century, in the final work "Pedagogical Correction" and writings of the 1930s.
