In this study, the classical literary text is considered as a kind of catalyst that triggers and accelerates the process of expanding semiosphere, creating space of secondary texts. The relevance of the work is due to the fact that the intertextuality of various types of cultural texts, including references at the level of titles of secondary texts, is insufficiently studied. The object of this work is the novel "Don Quixote" by Miguel de Cervantes as a source of development of the space of secondary texts (derived texts) in Spanish culture. The study revealed that the novel "Don Quixote" plays the role of a source text in Spanish culture, generating space of secondary texts. The story of the adventures of the fearless Hidalgo "has produced" many continuations. Sequels, translations, critical articles, films, cartoons, operas - all these works of artis part of the space of secondary texts surrounding the catalyst novel. Thus, secondary texts form a "field" of intertextual references, linking the novel "Don Quixote" with derivative texts. The group of secondary texts, weas Yu.M. Lotman treatascultural texts in a broad sense; in the course of the study, two main forms of intertextual references in continuation texts were identified - quotations and allusions. Quotations allow the author of the secondary text to openly and explicitly refer to the original text, while allusions play role of a "veiled" reference. The intertextual relations of two or more texts allow us to study in more detail relationship between the original text and the secondary text. We believe that the analysis performed will be useful for research in the field of intertextuality, secondariness, mass literature and the work of Miguel de Cervantes.
