The novel "Caravanserai" by F. Picabia: genre interpretation

The paper discusses some variants of the genre interpretation of the insufficiently explored novel «Caravanserai» (1924) by Francis Picabia, a French avant-garde artist, poet and writer. Special focus is on autobiographical, memoir and self-reflective poetics. The paper considers the features of the plot, the system of images, the space-time and compositional organization. It analyzes the narrative structure of the novel as well. It is concluded that the originality of the novel by F. Pikabia is created through the synthesis of different genre beginnings but the genre models themselves are interpreted by the author from the standpoint of their denial.
