The article offers an analytic overview of several contemporary British novels, which are united into one genre variety - the novel of consciousness. A range of typifying features, such a scientific and artistic interest in the problem of consciousness, scientific intertextuality, detailed depiction of mysterious states of the psyche, allow for making a conclusion about a scientific-analytical character of the development of contemporary British psychological fiction. The novel of consciousness often employs an experimental narrative mode and possesses a strong humanistic pathos.
