Novels by D. Tartt and J.K. Rowling: poetics, pragmatics, and context

Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to a comparative study of the works by D. Tartt and J.K. Rowling. We investigate genre, narrative, receptive identity, structural and typological connection of D. Tartt’s works and stories of J.K. Rowling about Harry Potter. Similar narrative constitutions of the novels by D. Tartt and J.K. Rowling are chronotope, character system, poetics of details, genre constants. Purpose of the article. The theoretical vector of the study is associated with the identification of semantics of the plot of growing up, functioning of motifs, themes and plots. Research methods. The article contains the reconstruction of genetic and typological connections, both in the genre and in the plot structures of the works by D. Tartt and J. K. Rowling. The study is based on intertextual, intermedial methods and immanent analysis of the text. The scientific originality of the research is the comparing of genre and narrative features of novels: the system of characters, chronotope, motif and thematic complexes. Research results. The works of writers are also studied in the aspect of pragmatics: the poetic makes them a sociocultural phenomenon and forms a special reception and popularity. Conclusions. The conducted comparative study allows us to see invariant plot models, the similarity of such categories of poetics as the system of characters, chronotope, intertextuality and becomes another step in understanding the canon of modern young adult literature.
