Russian civic identity and its connection with ethnic and religious identities of students of a pedagogical university in the Chechen Republic

The study deals with the problem of personal social identity viewed within the framework of the socio-psychological approach as a structural formation of personality, which is evolved in the process of sociocultural socialization. The paper provides an understanding of civic identity, reflecting the awareness of belonging to a community of citizens of a certain state, which is characterized by a significant meaning for a self-identifying individual. The results of a study of Russian civil, ethnic, and religious identities of students of a pedagogical university in the Chechen Republic are presented. It is shown that ethnic and religious identities are more significant for Chechen students in comparison with indicators of Russian civic identity. The connection of Russian civic identity with ethnic identity of students of a pedagogical university in Chechnya has been established, that proves the importance of the ethnocultural aspect of socialization, which influences the formation of Russian civic identity of students. At the same time, no connection of Russian civic identity with religiosity and religious orientations of students has been revealed.
