More than thirty years have passed since the Soviet Union disappeared from the map of the world. At the same time, despite the fact that Soviet civilization did not have a long history (the USSR ceased to exist without celebrating its seventieth anniversary), its influence on both political and socio-economic global processes, and on the worldview of people was and in many ways remains completely unique and unprecedented. The humanities, in particular history, always reflect public discourse at the level of scientific knowledge. This is also expressed in the fact that issues that are important for all Russians are periodically worked out anew, taking into account the expansion of the research horizon, new documents and theoretical approaches, and the relevance of analyzing the historical lessons of certain events. The heading of the heading "On the 100th anniversary of the formation of the USSR" is devoted to the most significant and topical issues in the history of the USSR. Research methods. The article was written in the format of a review genre, which required the involvement of elements of the method of synthesis of intellectual history and historiographic analysis. Taking into account that the rubric contains the texts of documents and there are articles of a biographical format, the authors also used the methods that historians use in the analysis of such publications: assessment of the reliability of documents, the place of their injury, the authorship of the compiler of the documents. This set reflects the level of understanding of the decision being made in this case on the national issue, the objectivity and reliability of the description of events when compared with other sources. Establishing the significance of publications of certain documents for the scientific community and all those who are interested in the socio-political history of the Fatherland. Research results. The authors conclude: a comparison of the achievements of researchers who took part in the thematic heading and the conclusions of their predecessors confirms the thesis: each time has its own tasks of knowing the past and highlighting the main question to answer emerging historical situations. The conceptual line of the heading of the magazine "On the 100th anniversary of the formation of the USSR: the fate of peoples." is, the study of the problem of national relations in the XX-XXI centuries, the establishment of difficulties of various levels and all the contradictions in the regulation of relations by the new party state with both national leaders and multinational communities in extremely difficult transition periods. The authors focus on such an era when the civil war ended and the society formed under the conditions of the model of national relations based on imperial policy, both in the center and on its periphery, entered a new historical era. In their totality, the questions posed in the articles of the rubric allowed their authors to show that the process of establishing new principles of national relations can drag on for many years. And the Bolshevik Party, which led the process of organizing a new type of multinational state of the USSR; in those historical conditions, it was necessary to turn to various forms of socio-political control, which reached the level of tragic events in terms of their consequences. They concerned the fate of some peoples and individuals. If we turn to the history of the creation of the CIS and the stages of transformation of relations between the CIS member states, we see that it also confirms the extreme complexity of organizing a new type of relations between national elites and sometimes unforeseen risks and threats in the regulation of national relations. They are expressed not only by contradictions in everyday life, but also pass into the stage of armed conflicts already at a new level. They are often associated with both historical factors and the interference of the United States and Western countries in the internal national politics of the CIS member states. Undoubtedly, a significant achievement of the rubric is the introduction of new historical sources that have been processed by historians. Documents recognized by domestic researchers and introduced into scientific circulation as reliable are a reliable guarantee that memory is preserved for centuries and remains alive and multifaceted. In addition, in our article we tried to answer the question: to what extent the articles presented in the rubric correspond to the interest of society in the presented historical issues.
