The article is devoted to the diplomatic relations between the Moscow state and Denmark-Norway. The arrival of Danish ambassadors to Moscow in 1595 was associated with the so-called Lapland dispute, a territorial dispute in the European Arctic. The author studies the prerequisites for the arrival of the Danish ambassadors, the circumstances associated with the embassy, as well as the facts reflecting the configuration of the Russian-Norwegian borderland. He examines the contents of a number of documents related to the diplomatic documentation of the 16th century, and compares the arguments used by the parties during the diplomatic dispute. As part of the study, a cartographic reconstruction of the configuration of the Russian-Norwegian borderland at the turn of the 16th-17th centuries was carried out, which led to conclusions about changes in the shape and configuration of the Lapland borderland.
