After the end of the Russian-Swedish war of 1741-1743, General Baron von Luberas was appointed the Russian envoy.to Stockholm in 1744, despite the objections of Chancellor A.P. Bestuzhev-Ryumin. Baron von Luberas was born and grew up in the Swedish kingdom. The Russian court instructed Luberas to achieve Russia’s prevailing infl uence of Russia in Stockholm and especially to monitor a possible Swedish-Prussian rapprochement, but not to interfere with it for political reasons. By the end of 1745, it became obvious that the envoy was failing to maintain Russia’s dominant infl uence due to both subjective reasons (Luberas’s lack of diplomatic skills) and objective ones, namely, the common desire of the Swedes to get rid of Russian infl uence, relying on the help of Prussia. At the end of 1745, in the context of the imminent convocation of the main organ of the Swedish power – the Riksdag, Luberas was hastily withdrawn and replaced by the diplomat baron von Korff, to whom Chancellor Bestuzhev-Ryumin had complete confi dence.
