Self-presentation of Socially Active Youth: Assessment of Needs and Barriers

The article presents some results of a study of the need for self–presentation of socially active youth – participants of the Youth All-Russian public organization “Russian student detachments”. Based on the consideration of self-presentation as a socio-psychological and communicative phenomenon, including cognitive, behavioral, emotional and value-semantic components, the ideas, diffi culties and educational needs of young people in this area are revealed. Based on the results of using the author’s questionnaire and interviews, it was found that the respondents’ need for self-presentation is unstructured and superfi cial. Most of the young people surveyed are aware of the importance of appropriate skills, but they face emotional barriers and lack of self-confi dence during public speaking. Respondents associate self-presentation with professional activity, paying attention to aspects of image and verbal manifestations, but do not see the role of self-presentation as a positive example of prosocial activity for peers. A program has been developed aimed at developing the image of a socially active personality and self-presentation skills. The conclusion is made about the relevance of the research topic and the relevance of studying according to the author’s program.
