Concrete and reinforced concrete are the main structural materials that perceive high loads, multiple alternating freezing - thawing, corrosion processes, etc., resulting in cracking. The article keeps under review components necessary for production of self-healing concrete, e.g. types of bacteria and requirements for them, nutrient media, carriers, precursors (substances designed to intensify the crystallization of CaCO3). It gives reactions of the formation of calcium carbonate during the hydrolysis of urea and through bacterial respiration, leading to the release of CO2. It established that carbonate biomineralization has positive effect on the physical and technical properties of concrete: compressive, bending and tensile strength, corrosion resistance.
