Сексуальность - одна из важнейших сторон жизни каждого человека, которая зависит от множества факторов, в том числе: биологических, психологических, социальных, культурных, этнических, религиозных. Женская сексуальность - это очень тонкий и сложный процесс, это баланс между психоэмоциональными реакциями и циклическими колебаниями гормонального фона. С увеличением продолжительности жизни современные женщины значительную ее часть проводят в периоде пременопаузы и постменопаузы. Менопаузальный период, зачастую, сопровождается снижением сексуальной активности в связи с рядом гормональных, психологических и физических изменений: вазомоторные симптомы (приливы), урогенитальные изменения (сухость, болезненность, дискомфорт при половом акте, недержание мочи), расстройство сна, перепады настроения, снижение полового влечения, снижение уверенности в себе. Часто женщины воспринимают данную ситуацию, как что-то неизбежное, то, с чем нужно просто смириться, поэтому редко обращаются за помощью к доктору. Хотя очевидно, что сексуальное здоровье очень сильно влияет на самооценку, качество жизни, психологическое и физическое здоровье каждой женщины. Именно поэтому, очень актуальным вопросом в современном мире является дальнейшее изучение причин снижения сексуальности в менопаузальный период и поиск решения данной проблемы.
