Family relationships in the context of social transformations

The paper analyzes the modern aspects of family relations. The relevance of the study is determined by the profound changes in all spheres of society, including the family, in the face of social transformations. This has led to the need for research on changes in the family, value characteristics of the relationship between a man and a woman, their gender roles. This important social institution intends not only to increase the population but also to be the unique state subsystem which should solve the problems associated with the economic and cultural development of society. As a part of the transformation processes, any changes in the family can be treated as fundamental and have a noticeable effect on the development of life strategies of members of society. This circumstance updates the modification problem of gender relations in the family. The novelty of the topic can be reflected in the following theses. Firstly, it is proved that the transformation of family relationships should be reviewed on the basis of the synthesis of philosophical, sociological, and psychological knowledge from the standpoint of gender methodology. Secondly, the analysis of approaches to studying the family identifies that family models are determined by the contexts of the social and cultural situation. Thirdly, it is revealed that in the post-industrial society, the family is grounded on the principles of egalitarian marriage based on gender equality. Fourthly, despite the fact that traditional models of family and gender relations are transformed or even destroyed in the globalized world, the family remains the sphere providing an opportunity to acquire identity and preserve personal integrity. From the theoretical perspective, this research will contribute to the increase in social and philosophical knowledge about the family and family relations under social transformations. The research findings may be useful for further studies on the subject matter within sociology and social philosophy.
