Seed growing of hybrid sunflower: methods, regulations, techniques (review)

The review is based on the analysis of domestic and foreign sources and presents information about the characteristics of methods, regulations and techniques used in the breeders and foundation seed growing of sunflower hybrids and their parental forms. We established the importance of bee-pollination and observance of scientifically recommended regulations of space and time isolation at all stages of the reproduction of seeds material. The review addresses the issues of environmental specialization of the production of high-quality seeds and the selection of the most promising regions of their cultivation. The authors underline the complexity and diversity of the processes that occur during the reproduction of self-pollinated lines and the production of hybrid seeds. It proves that the production of seed material is a knowledge-based industry, requiring extensive intellectual, physical and financial expenses.
