Family and the "culture of familism": tradition and modernity

Бесплатный доступ

The article analyzes the contradictions of modern family culture on the example of the post Soviet family. The relevance of the topic stems from the loss of traditional value perceptions of the family, which threaten not only the decline in birth rate and population, but also the disintegration of interpersonal communication coupled with impaired socialization. From the author's point of view, the value of the family in Russia over the last century has been constantly undermined by the priorities of the state on the one hand, and by ideas of individualism on the other. Western propaganda for the revision of gender perceptions has also had an impact. The author believes that although the state creates conditions for the dominance of certain values, the true "culture of family life" is created in the family itself, which does not oppose the state and does not incline people to individualism. The experience of family stories popular in the mass culture of our time testifies to the contradictions of the isolated value strategy of the family. The values of family culture can be formed in the assimilation of the family narrative, but its resources are insufficient for the formation of a culture of familism, in which the desire of the family receives a value interpretation at the level of society as a whole.
