From the times of the beginning of the history of chess in ancient India past it is already more than two millenia. In Tyva this intellectual game has received a national recognition. On the version of S. I. Weinstein, chess for the first time became known to Touvinians because of the Mongolians, who in turn adopted it from the Tibetans, and the latter from India together with Buddhism. Without rejecting the hypothesis outlined above, the author of this article proposes the result of his study, that chess appeared in Tyva into the Middle Ages from ancient Uigurs of East Turkestan in connection with distribution of Buddhist culture through Central Asia and Afghanistan.
