This contribution summarises 10 years of research activities with a focus on Siberia by the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology. The first team of researchers investigated property and particular practices of land use in the North. Subsequent teams expanded the thematic profile, studying the perception of the environment and orientation in space; discourses about the environment and land use; generational and gender relations; ethnicity as a dimension of identity; conversion and the interaction of different forms of spirituality; the current situation of the House of Culture in Siberian small-towns; and the changing conditions and limitations of lifestyle plurality in Siberia.
