Symbols of Muslim culture in the clothes of modern women of the Dagestan: the traditions or innovations

The article examines the process of formation of modern Muslim subcultures in the Republic of Dagestan. For the first time, an attempt has been made to determine the degree of cultural Arab influence on the emerging forms of Muslim clothing of modern Dagestani women. Within the framework of the study, the elements of the traditional female costume of the peoples of Dagestan were analyzed, which in the modern period entered the everyday life of representatives of Muslim subcultures. Based on field ethnographic materials, included observations, analysis of various scientific literature and historical sources, a conclusion is made about the degree of traditionality of the samples of women's costume used. The peculiarities of its wearing by representatives of different groups of Muslims in Dagestan are also noted, innovations in this direction are identified, and elements of clothing that acquire a specific symbolic meaning of the inhabitants of the republic are identified. The results of the study allow us to talk about the sustainable development of Muslim subcultures in the Republic of Dagestan, and also indicate the expansion of their influence on Dagestan society and an increase in the level of Islamization of the population as a whole.
