The article focuses on analyzing synonymic relationships among prepositions in shorthand business documents of the second half of the 18th century. Lexical and phraseological prepositions in the business language of that period, as well as in contemporary Russian, constitute integral components of the language's lexical system. In their interactions with each other and with other parts of speech, these prepositions form synonymic relationships. Ambiguous prepositions identified in the business writing of the second half of the 18th century belong to distinct synonymic series based on their meanings. In modern Russian, series of prepositions within synonymic relationships are not commonly used, a phenomenon linked to semantic shifts in the meaning of prepositions. The ambiguous prepositions identified in our analysis of business writing of the second half of the 18th century belong to different synonymic series depending on their meanings.
